Schrödinger's Cat was devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. He used the thought experiment to illustrate what he saw as the problems with the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics. The Copenhagen interpretation is a way of understanding how quantum mechanics works, and it says that when a quantum system is observed, it collapses into a single state.
