String theory Printable Physics Poster
String theory, superstring theory, and M-theory Printable History!!!
String theory is a way of trying to understand the fundamental nature of reality by assuming that everything is made of tiny vibrating strings. These strings can have different shapes, sizes, and modes of vibration, which give rise to the variety of particles and forces we observe in the universe. String theory also predicts that there are extra dimensions of space beyond the familiar three, which are curled up so small that we can’t see them. String theory is not yet a complete theory of everything, but it has many beautiful and surprising features.
Superstring theory is a version of string theory that incorporates supersymmetry, a mathematical symmetry that relates particles of different types. Supersymmetry predicts that for every known particle, there is a superpartner with the same properties except for the spin. For example, the superpartner of the electron is the selectron, which has spin zero instead of spin one-half. Superstring theory tries to explain all the particles and forces in nature as different vibrations of superstrings, which are one-dimensional objects with a very small size and a very high tension. Superstring theory also suggests that there are more than three spatial dimensions, but they are hidden from us because they are compactified or curled up at very small scales.
Even though majority of the scientific community have had their criticisms for these theories over the years, their history and understanding is quite fascinating to think about.
